FlyOne compensation: when you can claim €250 or €400
FlyOne is the Moldovan low-cost airline linking Chișinău with London Luton, Paris, Milan, Rome, Verona and Bologna. We have already handled claims for more than 450 FlyOne passengers: about 6 in 10 involved a delay and 3 in 10 a cancellation. If your FlyOne flight left an EU airport and reached its destination 3 hours or more late, or was cancelled at short notice, you may be owed €250 or €400 per person.
Which way you were flying matters. FlyOne is based in Chișinău and Moldova is not in the European Union, so under Regulation (EC) 261/2004 it counts as a non-EU airline. Its flights departing from the EU, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland are covered, such as Paris–Chișinău. Flights from Chișinău into the EU operated by the Moldovan company are not. The exception: flights operated by FlyOne Airlines, a sister company licensed in Romania and therefore an EU carrier.
Delayed flight
Your FlyOne flight from the EU arrives at its final destination at least 3 hours behind schedule.
3+ hours on arrivalCancelled flight
FlyOne told you less than 14 days before departure and did not offer a replacement with similar times.
Under 14 days' noticeOverbooking
You were refused boarding at a European airport against your will, with a valid ticket and on time at the gate.
Payable straight awayWhen you can't claim
On flights from Chișinău run by the Moldovan company, or when the disruption was caused by a genuine extraordinary circumstance such as a storm.

How much FlyOne pays: €250 or €400 per passenger
What you paid for the ticket makes no difference: even a bargain FlyOne fare carries the same fixed amount, based only on the distance between your departure airport and final destination. Our most common FlyOne routes from the EU:
| Flight distance | FlyOne routes from the EU | Compensation |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | Verona–Chișinău, Bologna–Chișinău, Rome Fiumicino–Chișinău | €250 |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | Paris Charles de Gaulle–Chișinău | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km | Very long flights, uncommon on FlyOne's European network | €600 |
Every passenger on the booking is entitled to their own payment, including children with their own seat. A family of four on a Paris–Chișinău flight cancelled the day before could receive €1,600 between them. In our form you enter the flight once and add your travelling companions.
Flying from London Luton? Since Brexit, flights departing the UK fall under UK261, the British version of the rules, which applies to every airline. Amounts are in pounds: £220 up to 1,500 km and £350 for 1,500 to 3,500 km, which covers Luton–Chișinău. The return from Chișinău to London is not covered when the Moldovan company operates it.
FlyOne flight delayed? What to do to claim compensation
Delays make up most of the FlyOne cases we handle, especially on flights from Luton, Verona, Milan and Rome to Chișinău. What counts is when at least one aircraft door opens on arrival, not take-off time. At the airport:
- Keep your FlyOne boarding pass and the booking confirmation sent by email.
- Photograph the departures board showing the revised time, and note when the doors open on arrival in Chișinău.
- Save FlyOne's emails and texts about the delay: the reason given at the airport sometimes changes in the reply to your claim.
- Ask for food and drink at the FlyOne desk or ground handling; if nothing is offered, buy what you need and keep the receipts.
- Don't accept a voucher or travel credit instead of compensation until you know how much you are owed in cash.
The care FlyOne must give you at the airport
On covered flights, meaning those departing the EU, FlyOne must provide meals and refreshments in line with the wait and, if departure slips to the next day, a hotel room and transport to it.
| Flight distance | Care after |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km (e.g. Bologna–Chișinău) | 2 hours |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km (e.g. Paris–Chișinău) | 3 hours |
| Over 3,500 km | 4 hours |
| Delay of 5 hours or more | You can give up the flight and get the ticket price back |
Missed connection with FlyOne
If you were travelling with a stop, for example in Chișinău, on a single booking that started at an EU airport, and you reached your final destination 3 hours or more late, compensation is based on the total distance. With separate tickets, each flight is assessed on its own. Find out more on our page about FlyOne delay compensation.
FlyOne flight cancelled: refund and compensation
Cancellations account for almost a third of the FlyOne claims we receive. Compensation can come on top of the refund offered by email.
Due for every cancelled FlyOne flight departing the EU: you choose between the ticket price back or another flight, including one on a later date that suits you.
An extra payment, due if FlyOne told you less than 14 days before departure and cannot prove an extraordinary circumstance.
| When FlyOne told you | Compensation |
|---|---|
| 14 days or more before departure | Not due, but you still get a refund or new flight |
| 7 to 13 days before | Due, unless the new flight leaves no more than 2 hours early and arrives less than 4 hours late |
| Less than 7 days before | Due, unless the new flight leaves no more than 1 hour early and arrives less than 2 hours late |
Schedule change. If FlyOne moves your flight by several hours shortly before departure, the EU Court of Justice may treat it as a cancellation. Already had your money back? See whether compensation is also due. More detail on our page about FlyOne cancelled flight compensation.
FlyOne overbooking: denied boarding means compensation now
It is the rarest case, around 5 in every 100 FlyOne claims we see. If FlyOne leaves you behind against your will on a flight departing the EU, it owes you compensation on the spot, as well as a refund or a seat on another flight.
It is not overbooking if boarding was refused because of invalid travel documents or because you reached the gate after it closed. If in doubt, ask us to check: it's free. Read our guide to FlyOne overbooking and denied boarding.
Strikes and FlyOne: when compensation is due
It depends who walks out. If FlyOne's own staff strike, such as pilots or cabin crew, the EU Court of Justice treats it as part of the airline's normal activity and compensation is usually payable (case C-28/20). A strike by air traffic controllers or airport staff counts as extraordinary, so no compensation, although FlyOne must still look after you and offer a refund or rerouting.
FlyOne rejected your claim? The usual excuses
Most refusals cite "extraordinary circumstances" or say the flight is not covered. That isn't always right.
Repairs and maintenance are part of running an airline. The exception is a manufacturing defect flagged by the manufacturer or the authorities. Told it was a "technical problem"? Have your flight checked.
EU Court of Justice, case C-549/07Correct if the Moldovan company operated the flight from Chișinău. If the operator was FlyOne Airlines, the Romanian-licensed carrier, the Regulation also covers flights into the EU. We check this for you.
An aircraft running late from a previous rotation does not on its own rule out compensation: FlyOne has to show the original cause was genuinely extraordinary.
These only count if they actually caused your delay. We check the weather and airport restrictions for that time slot.
FlyOne, FlyOne Airlines and FlyOne Armenia: who operated your flight?
The main airline is Moldovan, based in Chișinău. Since 2022 there has also been FlyOne Airlines, which holds an air operator certificate from the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority: it is an EU carrier, so on its flights the Regulation applies both to departures from Europe and to arrivals into the EU from outside. FlyOne Armenia, based in Yerevan, is an Armenian airline and follows the rules for non-EU carriers.
You don't need to work this out: choose FlyOne in our form and we check which company actually operated the flight.
FlyOne flights to and from Moldova: what is covered
Outbound and return flights are assessed separately, even on the same booking:
- Paris, Milan, Rome, Verona or Bologna to Chișinău: covered by EU261
- London Luton to Chișinău: covered by UK261
- Chișinău to the EU or UK, operated by the Moldovan company: not covered
- flights into the EU operated by FlyOne Airlines, the Romanian carrier: covered
- Yerevan to the EU, operated by FlyOne Armenia: not covered
How to claim from FlyOne: on your own or with us
You can contact FlyOne yourself, free of charge, through the support pages of flyone.eu ("Get Support"): give your booking reference, flight number, date and passenger names, and ask specifically for compensation under Regulation 261/2004.
It costs nothing, but you handle all the correspondence. If FlyOne refuses or goes quiet, you can complain to the national enforcement body of the country where the flight departed (the CAA for flights from the UK) or go to court, at your own cost and pace.
Fill in the form in 2 minutes and sign online. We handle the claim, the formal demand and, if needed, court action with our own lawyers. You only pay if you get compensation: 25% + VAT. Legal costs are ours, even if the case is lost.
If FlyOne has already turned you down
Refused or ignored? Pass the claim to us: if FlyOne is wrong, we send a formal demand.
Documents to have ready
- FlyOne booking or boarding passA photo or the PDF from your email is fine.
- Passport or IDFor each passenger, children included.
- Messages from FlyOneEmails and texts about the delay, cancellation or time change, plus receipts for expenses.
How long do you have to claim from FlyOne?
The Regulation sets no deadline: time limits come from the law of the country where you bring the claim, as the EU Court of Justice confirmed (case C-139/11),. Was your FlyOne flight months or even years ago? You may still be in time: enter the date and we'll tell you.
How long it takes to get your FlyOne compensation
If FlyOne accepts the claim, payment usually arrives within a few weeks. If it refuses, a formal demand and sometimes court action are needed, which adds a few months. Once FlyOne pays, we transfer your share by bank transfer.
Lost or damaged luggage on FlyOne
Baggage is not part of delay and cancellation compensation: it falls under the Montreal Convention. If your suitcase does not turn up in Chișinău or comes back damaged, fill in a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) at the airport, then send FlyOne a written claim within 7 days for damage or within 21 days of delivery for delayed bags.
