Air Nostrum compensation: when you are owed €250 or €400
Air Nostrum is the Valencia-based Spanish regional airline that flies as Iberia Regional. Plenty of travellers book on iberia.com, see an IB flight number and never realise the aircraft belongs to Air Nostrum. We have already handled more than 40 Air Nostrum claims, many on routes linking Portugal, the Balearic Islands and Morocco. If your flight landed 3 hours late, was cancelled at short notice or left you behind at the gate, you can claim €250 or €400 per person.
Air Nostrum L.A.M. S.A. is a Spanish, and therefore EU, airline: Regulation (EC) 261/2004 covers its departures from the EU and also its flights arriving in Europe from outside, such as Oujda to Lisbon or Porto.

How much Air Nostrum pays on its routes
Air Nostrum flies short sectors, so nearly every claim falls into the first band. What you paid for the ticket makes no difference.
| Distance | Air Nostrum routes we see claims on | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | Oujda–Porto, Porto–Menorca, Lisbon–Oujda, Porto–Palma de Mallorca, Menorca–Lisbon | €250 |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | Few routes on the regional network | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km | Unusual for a regional airline | €600 |
Compensation is per passenger: a couple with two children on a Porto–Menorca flight that arrived three and a half hours late can claim €1,000. Children with their own seat count as adults. In our form you add your travel companions in one step.
Air Nostrum flight delayed: what to do
Roughly 4 in 10 of the Air Nostrum claims we handle are about delays. Here is what helps:
- Check who operates the flight: if it has an IB number but says "operated by Air Nostrum", the claim is against Air Nostrum.
- Keep your boarding pass and booking, even if Iberia issued them.
- Screenshot the alerts from the Iberia app and any texts: they often state the cause.
- Note when the doors opened on arrival, not just the landing time.
- Keep receipts for food, taxis or hotels, and do not sign waivers in exchange for vouchers.
Care at the airport while you wait
Air Nostrum must provide meals and drinks and, if departure slips into the night or the next day, a hotel and transfers.
| Distance | Care from |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | 2 hours |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | 3 hours |
| Over 3,500 km | 4 hours |
| 5 hours or more | You can give up the trip and get the fare back |
Missed connection in Madrid or Barcelona
Many Air Nostrum flights feed Iberia's hubs at Madrid and Barcelona. On a single booking, the delay at your final destination is what counts and the amount is based on the total distance. Full details on our Air Nostrum delayed flight compensation page.
Air Nostrum cancelled flight: refund and compensation
Cancellations are the most common problem in our Air Nostrum cases, at more than 4 in 10. Being offered another flight or a refund does not settle everything.
Always: you choose between the fare and an alternative flight.
On top, if notice came less than 14 days ahead.
| Cancellation notice | Compensation |
|---|---|
| 14 days or more | Not owed |
| 7 to 13 days | Owed, unless the alternative leaves no more than 2 hours early and arrives within 4 hours |
| Under 7 days | Owed, unless the alternative leaves no more than 1 hour early and arrives within 2 hours |
Schedule change. A big change to departure time announced a few days before can count as a cancellation. Read more on Air Nostrum cancelled flight compensation.
Air Nostrum overbooking and denied boarding
About 1 in 10 Air Nostrum claims concerns denied boarding. If you held a valid ticket, reached the gate on time and were refused for lack of seats, compensation must be paid immediately, along with a new flight or a refund. It does not apply if the reason was your documents or arriving late. See our guide to Air Nostrum overbooking and denied boarding.
Air Nostrum strikes: pilots and compensation
Air Nostrum has faced strikes by its own pilots before, such as the Easter 2019 walkout that ended in a deal with the SEPLA union. In cases like this, compensation is normally owed, because a strike by the airline's staff is part of its ordinary business (EU Court of Justice, case C-28/20). If air traffic control strikes, it is not owed, but care and rerouting still are.
Air Nostrum said no? The usual reasons
A fault found during maintenance or before take-off is the airline's risk.
EU Court of Justice, case C-549/07Owed if Air Nostrum pilots were striking, not controllers.
EU Court of Justice, case C-28/20Regional aircraft fly several sectors a day: a knock-on delay alone does not rule out compensation.
Wind or fog only counts if it hit that flight: we check the airport data.
Iberia Regional flights operated by Air Nostrum
Air Nostrum flies under an Iberia franchise as Iberia Regional, with hubs at Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca as well as its Valencia base; since 2023 it has shared a group with Ireland's CityJet. Flights are sold on iberia.com, carry IB numbers and earn Avios, but the operating carrier is Air Nostrum and it is Air Nostrum that must pay. You can enter the IB flight in our form and we will identify the right airline.
Air Nostrum flights between Portugal, the Balearics and Morocco
A good share of our claims come from routes few people link to Air Nostrum: Porto and Lisbon to Menorca and Palma, and services to Oujda in eastern Morocco. As an EU airline, Air Nostrum is covered in both directions, including the flight from Oujda to Portugal.
How to claim from Air Nostrum: on your own or with us
The official complaint for Iberia Regional flights is filed in writing through Iberia's claims page, linked from the "Reclamaciones" section of airnostrum.es.
It is free, but you need to work out whether to write to Iberia or Air Nostrum, deal with refusals and, if needed, go to the national enforcement body of the country where the flight departed, or to court, at your own cost.
Fill in the form and sign online; we handle the claim, formal notice and court case with our own lawyers. You only pay if you get paid: 25% + VAT. Legal costs are ours, even if we lose.
If Air Nostrum has already refused
Send us the reply: if the refusal is unfounded, we follow up with a formal letter before action.
Documents you need
- Booking and boarding passEven if issued by Iberia.
- Passport or IDFor every passenger, children included.
- Notices and receiptsTexts, emails and proof of expenses.
Time limits
The Regulation sets no deadline: the law of the country where you claim applies (EU Court of Justice, case C-139/11). An Air Nostrum flight from a few years ago may still qualify: enter the date.
How long Air Nostrum takes to pay
If Air Nostrum accepts, payment usually arrives within a few weeks. If it refuses, the formal notice and any court case add several months.
Lost baggage on an Air Nostrum flight
Baggage falls under the Montreal Convention: fill in a PIR at the desk in the arrivals hall before leaving, then claim in writing within 7 days for damage and within 21 days for late delivery. On Iberia Regional flights the baggage file goes through Iberia.
