Condor compensation: when the German airline owes you up to €600
Condor is Germany's holiday airline, flying from German airports to the Mediterranean and, out of Frankfurt, across the Atlantic. We have helped more than 300 Condor passengers so far, and most of their claims involve long-haul trips such as Toronto, Vancouver or New York to Frankfurt. On those routes the compensation is €600 per person.
Condor Flugdienst GmbH is registered in Kelsterbach, Hesse, and holds a German operating licence, so it counts as an EU carrier. Regulation (EC) 261/2004 protects you on every Condor flight leaving the EU and also on flights coming back into Europe from Canada, the United States or Mexico.
Long delay
Your Condor flight reaches its final destination three hours or more behind schedule.
3+ hours on arrivalCancellation
Condor told you less than 14 days before departure and the replacement flight fell outside the legal time limits.
Short noticeBumped from the flight
You were refused boarding because the flight was oversold, despite checking in on time with valid documents.
Payable at onceNo compensation
Events Condor could not control, such as a hurricane in the Caribbean or closed airspace. The airline has to prove them, though.

How much Condor pays on its most claimed routes
The amount is fixed by the distance to your final destination. Your fare and cabin make no difference.
| Distance | Condor routes | Compensation |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | Frankfurt–Palma de Mallorca, Frankfurt–Olbia | €250 |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | Frankfurt–Heraklion, Frankfurt–Fuerteventura, Frankfurt–Hurghada | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km | Toronto–Frankfurt, Vancouver–Frankfurt, New York–Frankfurt, Frankfurt–Cancún, Frankfurt–Los Angeles | €600 |
Each passenger on the booking has their own claim. A family of four landing in Frankfurt from Toronto five hours late is owed €2,400 in total, and children with their own seat count in full.
Condor flight delayed: what to do before you leave the airport
Around 7 in 10 of the Condor claims we handle are about delays, often on transatlantic legs that left Canada or the US late. The clock stops when the aircraft door opens at your destination, not at touchdown. While you wait:
- Keep your boarding pass, paper or mobile, plus the booking confirmation showing the DE flight number.
- Ask Condor staff for the reason in writing; a vague answer is easier to challenge later.
- Note the time the doors opened on arrival in Frankfurt or wherever you landed.
- Hold on to receipts for food, taxis and hotels you paid for yourself.
- Turn down vouchers if accepting them means giving up cash compensation.
Meals and hotels Condor must provide
Separately from compensation, Condor has to look after you: food and drink, and an overnight stay with transfers if departure moves to the next day.
| Flight | Care starts after |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km (e.g. Palma) | 2 hours |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km (e.g. Canary Islands) | 3 hours |
| Over 3,500 km (e.g. North America) | 4 hours |
| Delay over 5 hours | You may cancel the trip and get your fare back |
Missed your connection in Frankfurt?
If both flights were on one booking, what matters is your arrival at the last airport, and the compensation is based on the full distance. Two separate tickets are assessed one by one. More on our page about Condor delay compensation.
Condor flight cancelled: refund, rebooking and compensation
Condor will usually offer your money back or a new flight. Taking either does not cancel your separate right to fixed compensation.
Your choice: the ticket price back within seven days, or rerouting to the same destination.
Added on top when the cancellation reached you late.
| Notice given | Compensation |
|---|---|
| 14 days or more | None, but refund or rerouting still apply |
| 7 to 13 days | Yes, unless the alternative leaves no more than 2 hours earlier and lands less than 4 hours late |
| Under 7 days | Yes, unless the alternative leaves no more than 1 hour earlier and lands less than 2 hours late |
Retimed flights. Condor's seasonal holiday flights are often rescheduled. A large change announced close to departure can legally count as a cancellation. See our page on Condor cancellation compensation or check your flight now.
Condor overbooking and denied boarding
This accounts for about 7 in 100 of our Condor cases. If you are kept off the plane against your will with a valid ticket and on-time check-in, compensation is due straight away. It is not owed when the refusal comes down to your own paperwork, for example a missing ESTA for the US or eTA for Canada. Read more in our guide to Condor overbooking.
Condor strikes: when walkouts still mean compensation
When Condor's own pilots or cabin crew strike, the disruption is part of running an airline and compensation is normally due, as the EU Court of Justice held in case C-28/20. If air traffic controllers or airport staff strike, Condor can claim extraordinary circumstances but still owes you care.
Condor rejected your claim? Common reasons and what the law says
Condor's rejection letters tend to fall into a few patterns. This is how European case law treats them.
Faults found during routine maintenance are a normal operating risk. Hidden manufacturing defects flagged by the maker are the exception.
EU Court of Justice, case C-549/07A strike by Condor staff does not excuse the airline. One by controllers or airport workers does.
EU Court of Justice, case C-28/20On long-haul the same jet flies out and back. A knock-on delay from the previous rotation is not extraordinary in itself.
Snow in Frankfurt or a storm over the Atlantic can excuse Condor, but only if it really hit your flight at that time.
About Condor: ownership, bases and flights back to Europe
Condor kept flying after the collapse of the Thomas Cook group in 2019 and has been majority-owned by the investment firm Attestor since 2021. It has bases at several German airports and in Zurich, with long-haul services usually departing from Frankfurt. As an EU carrier it is liable on inbound flights too, including:
- Canada and the US, such as Toronto, Vancouver or New York
- Mexico, such as Cancún
- Egypt, such as Hurghada on the Red Sea
Package holidays. Many Condor seats are sold by tour operators as part of a package. Delay and cancellation compensation is still owed by Condor as the operating airline.
How to claim from Condor: on your own or with us
Condor has an EU261 claim form in the help section of its website and asks for a signed power of attorney if you claim on behalf of other people.
Free, but you write the claim, collect the authorisations and handle the replies. If Condor will not pay, you turn to the national enforcement body of the country you flew from (in Germany the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, in the UK the CAA) or to the courts.
A two-minute form and an online signature, authorisation included. We handle the claim, the formal demand and any court case with our own lawyers. You pay only if you win: 25% + VAT, with legal costs on us even if we lose.
If Condor has already turned you down
Forward us its answer; it becomes the starting point for our formal demand.
What we need from you
- Booking or boarding passA tour operator confirmation works too.
- ID for each travellerPassport or ID card, children included.
- Condor's messagesDelay or cancellation notices and your expense receipts.
Time limit for a Condor claim
The Regulation sets no deadline; national law of the country where you bring the claim decides, as the EU Court of Justice confirmed in case C-139/11. Older trips are often still claimable: enter the date and we will tell you.
How long a Condor payout takes
If Condor accepts the claim, the money usually arrives within a few weeks. If it takes a formal demand or legal action, allow several months.
Lost or damaged baggage on Condor
Luggage falls under the Montreal Convention rather than Regulation 261. File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) at the arrival airport before leaving, then write to Condor within 7 days for damage or within 21 days of delivery for delayed bags.
