Wamos Air compensation: who the airline is and when you can claim
Wamos Air is a Spanish airline based in Madrid, operating from Madrid-Barajas. It used to trade as Pullmantur Air and took its current name after being sold in 2014; since 2024 it has belonged to Abra Group. It is still flying, but it no longer sells its own tickets: scheduled routes to the Caribbean ended in 2022, and today it runs holiday charters and leases aircraft with crew to other airlines, using an all-Airbus A330 fleet. Many travellers only realise they flew Wamos when they see the operator's name on the boarding pass.
As an EU carrier, Wamos is bound by Regulation (EC) 261/2004 on flights leaving Europe and on flights it operates into Europe from elsewhere.
Long delay
The A330 gets you to your destination three hours or more after the scheduled time.
From 3 hoursCharter called off
The flight is dropped and you are told less than 14 days before.
Late warningNo seat for you
More seats were sold than the aircraft holds and you are left behind.
Owed at the gateExclusions
Extraordinary events the carrier can prove, and routes that never touch Europe.

How much Wamos Air pays
With only wide-body A330s, Wamos flies almost entirely long-haul, so the top amount is the one you will usually see.
| Distance | Flights operated by Wamos | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | Uncommon, a few charters | €250 |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | Uncommon, a few charters | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km | Madrid–New York, Lisbon–Fortaleza, former Madrid–Cancún and Madrid–Punta Cana routes | €600 |
Two parents and two children with their own seats on a delayed Caribbean charter could claim €2,400 between them.
Wamos Air flight delayed: what to do
The delay counts from the moment the door opens on arrival, not from take-off. At the airport:
- Confirm the operator: Wamos Air appears on the boarding pass or departures screen.
- Keep your holiday paperwork, including the tour operator's booking confirmation.
- Ask the holiday rep to state the cause of the delay in writing.
- Snap the departures board showing the revised time.
- Save receipts for food and transport if nobody looks after you.
Care while you wait
| Distance | Meals and drinks after |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | 2 hours |
| 1,500-3,500 km | 3 hours |
| Over 3,500 km, such as Madrid–New York | 4 hours |
| 5-hour wait | You may cancel the trip and ask for your money back |
Missed connection
If the Wamos leg was part of a single booking, the delay at your final destination and the total distance are what count. Read more about the delayed Wamos Air flight.
Wamos Air flight cancelled
With charters, tour operators sometimes merge two departures or swap the aircraft late on. You still have two protections.
Always due.
If the warning came less than 14 days ahead.
| Notice | Compensation |
|---|---|
| 14 days or more | Not owed |
| 7-13 days | Owed, unless the alternative leaves no more than 2 hours early and lands within 4 hours |
| Under 7 days | Owed, unless the alternative leaves no more than 1 hour early and lands within 2 hours |
Moved departure. A charter brought forward or pushed back by many hours shortly before travel can count as a cancellation. More on the cancelled Wamos Air flight page.
Wamos Air overbooking
On a packed charter, seats sold can exceed capacity. If you are left behind through no fault of your own, compensation and an alternative are owed straight away. See Wamos Air overbooking.
Wamos Air strikes
If Wamos pilots or cabin crew strike, compensation is normally still payable (case C-28/20). An air traffic control strike in Spain or France is an outside event and lets the airline off.
Wamos Air won't pay? The usual replies
Fleet maintenance is ordinary business.
EU Court of Justice, case C-549/07Compensation is owed by the airline responsible for the flight, not the travel agent; we work out which one.
If a storm warning really shut the airport, compensation is not due.
Wamos flights for other airlines: who receives the claim
Wamos has flown Madrid–New York for Air Europa, scheduled services from Madrid for Iberia and Lisbon–Fortaleza for TAP. In these leases the flight carries the client airline's code and, depending on who holds operational responsibility, the claim goes either to that airline or to Wamos. You do not have to work it out: we do, from your documents.
How to claim from Wamos Air
You must decide whether to write to Wamos, the client airline or the tour operator, then deal with refusals, the national enforcement body of the departure country (the CAA for UK departures) and the courts.
We find the right recipient. You pay 25% + VAT only if we win: €600 becomes €417 in your account.
Claim already rejected
Forward us the reply: if it does not stand up, we start with a formal letter before action.

Deadline
There is no single European limit; national law applies (case C-139/11). Flight a few years ago? See whether you are still in time.
When the money arrives
If the carrier accepts, usually within a few weeks. With a demand letter or court case it takes several months, but legal costs stay with us even if we lose.
Luggage and Wamos Air
Lost or damaged bag? The Montreal Convention applies: file a PIR at the airport, then a written claim within 7 days for damage or 21 days for late delivery.
