Plus Ultra compensation: €600 per passenger on Madrid–Latin America flights
Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas is a Spanish long-haul airline based at Madrid-Barajas, flying to Lima, Caracas and, from 2026, Buenos Aires. We have already handled claims for more than 40 Plus Ultra passengers. Every route on its network is longer than 3,500 km, so a 3-hour delay, a late cancellation or being bumped from the flight is worth the top rate: €600 per person.
Because Plus Ultra is licensed in Spain, it is an EU airline. Regulation (EC) 261/2004 covers its flights out of Spain and its flights back into Spain, such as Lima–Madrid.
Delayed
You reach your final destination 3 hours or more after the scheduled time.
3 hours plusCancelled
Plus Ultra told you less than 14 days before departure and the new flight is not close to the original times.
Short noticeBumped
The flight was full and you were left behind despite a valid ticket and timely check-in.

How much Plus Ultra has to pay
The fare you paid makes no difference. What counts is the distance to your final destination, and Plus Ultra only flies long-haul.
| Distance | Plus Ultra routes our clients claim for | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | None: the network is intercontinental only | €250 |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | None on the current network | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km | Madrid–Lima, Lima–Madrid, Madrid–Bogotá, Madrid–Caracas, Cartagena–Madrid, Santiago de Cuba–Madrid | €600 |
The amount applies to each passenger. Two adults and two children on a Madrid–Caracas flight that landed 4 hours late can claim €2,400 between them, as long as the children had their own seats. Enter the flight once in our form and add your travel companions.
Plus Ultra flight delayed: what to do
About 6 in 10 Plus Ultra claims we receive are about delays. With a small fleet shuttling across the Atlantic, a late departure from Madrid often means a late return too. The time that matters is when the doors open on arrival, not when the wheels touch down. While you wait:
- Keep your boarding pass from the airport desk or from online check-in on plusultra.com.
- Ask the Plus Ultra desk for the reason and write down what they say.
- Photograph the departures board in Madrid, Lima or Caracas.
- Hold on to receipts for food, taxis or a hotel if no care is offered.
- Do not sign a waiver in exchange for vouchers: compensation is paid in money.
Care during the wait
On Plus Ultra's long-haul flights, meals and drinks are due once you have waited 4 hours; if departure moves to the next day, a hotel and transfers too.
| Flight distance | Care from |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | 2 hours |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | 3 hours |
| Over 3,500 km | 4 hours |
| Over 5 hours | You can give up the trip and get the fare back |
Missed connection in Madrid
If a late Plus Ultra arrival made you miss an onward flight to London or Dublin booked on the same reservation, the delay is measured at your final destination and the distance covers the whole journey. Read more on our page about Plus Ultra delay compensation.
Plus Ultra flight cancelled: refund and compensation
Roughly 1 in 4 Plus Ultra claims we handle involves a cancellation. The airline's network has changed often: flights to Colombia have been suspended since June 2026 and Caracas came back after a break. A cancellation gives you two separate rights:
Always due: you choose between your money back and another flight to the same destination.
On top, if you were told less than 14 days before departure.
| Notice given | Compensation |
|---|---|
| 14 days or more | No, but refund or rebooking still apply |
| 7 to 13 days | Yes, unless the new flight leaves no more than 2 hours earlier and arrives less than 4 hours late |
| Under 7 days | Yes, unless the new flight leaves no more than 1 hour earlier and arrives less than 2 hours late |
Retimed flights. With only a few weekly departures, a Plus Ultra schedule change can shift your trip by a whole day. If it comes shortly before departure, it may count as a cancellation. See our guide to Plus Ultra cancellation compensation.
Plus Ultra overbooking and denied boarding
More than 1 in 10 of the Plus Ultra claims we see is about denied boarding. If you were at the gate on time with a valid ticket and were refused because the aircraft was full, you are owed €600 straight away, plus a replacement flight or refund and meals and a hotel while you wait.
There is no compensation if boarding was refused for reasons on your side, such as missing entry documents for Peru or Venezuela. Check your case or read our page on Plus Ultra overbooking.
Plus Ultra strikes
If Plus Ultra's own pilots or cabin crew walk out, the airline normally still has to pay: the EU Court of Justice treats a strike by an airline's staff as part of its normal business (case C-28/20). A strike by air traffic controllers or airport ground staff is different: no compensation, although care is still owed.
Plus Ultra rejected your claim? Common reasons
Faults found during maintenance or before take-off are part of an airline's normal risks.
EU Court of Justice, case C-549/07A vague phrase is not enough: Plus Ultra has to prove a specific event it could not avoid.
Only if it genuinely affected that flight. We check the weather reports for the time given.
Return flights from Latin America are covered too
Many passengers assume a delay on a flight from Lima to Madrid gives them nothing because it started outside Europe. With Plus Ultra, a Spanish airline, it does. That includes:
- flights from Lima and Caracas to Madrid
- flights from Caracas to Tenerife North
- past Plus Ultra flights from Bogotá, Cartagena and Santiago de Cuba
How to claim from Plus Ultra
On the "Reclamaciones" page of its website, Plus Ultra provides a claim form in Spanish and English to download, fill in and send to customer service.
Free, but you chase the airline yourself. If it will not pay, your options are the national enforcement body of the country where the flight departed (AESA for flights from Spain) or the courts, at your own cost.
Fill in our form and sign online. We handle the claim, the formal demand and any court case with our lawyers. You only pay if you get paid: 25% + VAT. Legal costs are ours, even if the case is lost.
If Plus Ultra has already rejected you
We review the reason it gave and, if it does not stand up, restart the claim with a formal demand in Spain.
Documents to have ready
- Ticket or boarding passThe booking confirmation email is fine.
- Passport or IDFor each passenger, children included.
- Plus Ultra messagesDelay, cancellation or schedule change notices, plus receipts.
Time limits
The Regulation sets no deadline: national law in the country where you claim decides, as the EU Court of Justice confirmed in case C-139/11. A Plus Ultra flight from a few years ago may well still be claimable: enter the date and we will tell you.
How long Plus Ultra takes to pay
If Plus Ultra accepts the claim, payment usually comes within a few weeks. If it refuses or stays silent, a formal demand and sometimes a court case in Spain are needed, which can take several months. Once we are paid, we transfer your share: €417 out of €600.
Lost or damaged luggage on Plus Ultra
Bags fall outside delay compensation and follow the Montreal Convention. File a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) at the airport before you leave, then write to Plus Ultra within 7 days for damage or within 21 days of delivery for a delayed bag.
