  • Cancellation: you are owed compensation if you were told less than 14 days before departure, on top of a ticket refund or an alternative flight.

TUI fly compensation: when a delay or cancellation pays out

A TUI fly booking usually means a holiday, so a delay of half a day eats straight into time you paid for. We have handled more than 250 claims against TUI fly, most of them on flights to and from Brussels, and 7 in 10 were about a late arrival. Arrived 3 hours or more behind schedule, cancelled at short notice or bumped from a full flight? You could be owed €250 to €600 per passenger.

"TUI fly" is a brand shared by several airlines in the TUI group. The one using code TB is TUI Airlines Belgium, registered at Brussels Airport: a Belgian, and therefore EU, carrier. That means Regulation (EC) 261/2004 covers its flights leaving the EU and its return legs from Morocco, Turkey, Egypt or the Caribbean. The UK airline TUI Airways works differently, as explained further down.

Late arrival

You reach your final destination at least 3 hours after the scheduled time.

3 hours or more

Cancelled flight

TUI fly told you less than two weeks before departure and the replacement did not fit the legal time limits.

Under 14 days' notice

Bumped

The flight was oversold and you were left behind despite turning up at the gate on time.

Payable on the spot

No payout

Genuine events beyond TUI fly's control, such as a real storm or an air traffic control strike. The airline must prove it.

Extraordinary circumstances

How much TUI fly pays on its busiest routes

What you paid for the package makes no difference. The amount depends only on the distance between your departure airport and final destination.

Distance TUI fly routes from our claims Compensation
Up to 1,500 km Brussels–Palma de Mallorca €250
1,500–3,500 km Tenerife–Brussels, Casablanca–Paris €400
Over 3,500 km Punta Cana–Brussels, Cancún–Brussels, Brussels–Cancún €600

Each traveller claims separately. Two parents and two children landing in Brussels from Cancún five hours late can claim €2,400 between them, as a child with their own seat is owed the same as an adult.

TUI fly flight delayed: what to do at the airport

Holiday aircraft fly several rotations a day, so a morning hiccup often carries through to the evening departure. While you wait:

  1. Keep the TUI confirmation showing the flight number; on package trips the boarding pass is sometimes kept by the rep.
  2. Ask the TUI rep what caused the delay and write the answer down.
  3. Note the time the doors open at your destination.
  4. Hold on to receipts for food, taxis or a hotel if no vouchers were handed out.
  5. Turn down travel vouchers offered instead of cash.

Meals and hotel: what TUI fly owes you while you wait

Care is owed even when bad weather rules out compensation.

Flight length Meals and drinks after
Up to 1,500 km 2 hours
1,500–3,500 km 3 hours
Over 3,500 km 4 hours
Delay of 5 hours or more You can cancel the trip and get the fare back

Missed connection on a TUI fly booking

On a single booking, what counts is the delay at your final destination and the distance of the whole journey. Two separately bought tickets are treated as two unrelated flights. More detail on our page about TUI fly delay compensation.

TUI fly flight cancelled: refund, rebooking and compensation

Taking the new date or airport offered by your tour operator does not cost you the compensation.

New flight or refund

Always owed when a flight is cancelled, whatever the reason and however much notice you had.

€250 to €600 on top

Owed when notice came less than 14 days ahead and the cause was not extraordinary.

When TUI fly told you Compensation
14 days or more before No, but you still choose refund or new flight
7 to 13 days before Yes, if the new flight left over 2 hours earlier or landed 4 hours or more late
Under 7 days before Yes, if the new flight left over 1 hour earlier or landed 2 hours or more late

Retimed charter flights. TUI fly sometimes moves a departure by several hours a few days before you fly. The EU Court of Justice treats a significant retiming like a cancellation. See our page on TUI fly cancellation compensation.

TUI fly overbooking and denied boarding

It accounts for roughly 4 in 100 of our TUI fly claims. If you are refused boarding against your will, you are owed compensation straight away, plus a new flight or refund and care while you wait. Read more on TUI fly overbooking.

TUI fly strikes: whose strike it was matters

When TUI fly's own pilots or cabin crew walk out, compensation is normally due: the EU Court of Justice sees a strike by an airline's staff as part of its normal business (case C-28/20). A French air traffic control strike or a walkout by Belgian airport staff is outside the airline's control, so no compensation, though meals, hotel and rebooking are still owed.

TUI fly rejected your claim? Common reasons and how they stand up

Usually payable
"Technical fault with the aircraft"

Maintenance is part of running an airline. Only hidden manufacturing defects flagged by the manufacturer or authorities are an exception.

EU Court of Justice, case C-549/07
Usually payable
"Knock-on delay from earlier rotations"

A delay carried over from earlier legs is not extraordinary in itself. TUI fly has to name the specific event that started it.

Depends
"Industrial action"

Payable if TUI fly staff were on strike, not if it was air traffic controllers or airport workers.

EU Court of Justice, case C-28/20
Often not payable
"Weather" or "ATC slot restrictions"

Valid only if they actually hit your flight. We check the weather and restrictions for that day before advising you.

Has TUI fly already said no? Send us the reply. If the reason does not hold, we challenge it in writing and take the airline to court if needed. Check your TUI fly flight.

TUI fly Belgium, Germany, Netherlands and TUI Airways compared

Which TUI airline flies you depends on where you depart, and your protection changes with it:

  • TUI fly Belgium (code TB): Belgian, also flies from France and Morocco. Fully covered, return legs included.
  • TUI fly Deutschland (TUIfly GmbH, code X3): German, fully covered.
  • TUI fly Netherlands (code OR): Dutch, fully covered.
  • TUI Airways (code BY, based at Luton): a UK airline, so outside the EU since Brexit. EU261 applies only on its flights from EU airports. Flights from the UK fall under UK261, which pays £220, £350 or £520, and the UK regime also covers its flights into the UK.

No more Caribbean from Brussels. TUI fly Belgium ended its long-haul flights from Brussels, including Punta Cana and Cancún, between late October and early November 2025, and its Dreamliners moved to TUI fly Netherlands. A delayed or cancelled flight on those routes before then can still earn €600.

Claiming from TUI fly: on your own or with us

TUI fly has an online form for delayed flights, but it may not accept your claim without a TUI booking number, for example if you booked through a travel website.

On your own

Free, but chasing and rejections are yours to handle. If TUI fly refuses, you go to the national enforcement body of the country you flew from (the CAA in the UK) or to court, at your own cost.

With DelayFlight24

Flight details and an online signature, then we take it from there, court included, with our own lawyers. You pay 25% + VAT only if you are paid. Legal costs are ours even if the case is lost.

Already turned down by TUI fly?

Forward us the email. If the refusal is unfounded, we start with a formal letter before action.

What you need

  • TUI confirmation or boarding passThe package voucher with the flight number also works.
  • Passport or IDFor each passenger, children included.
  • Messages from TUITexts, retiming emails and receipts.

Time limits for a TUI fly claim

The Regulation sets no deadline of its own: national rules apply in the country where you bring the claim (EU Court of Justice, case C-139/11). A TUI fly holiday from a few years back may still be claimable: enter the date and we will tell you.

How long TUI fly takes to pay

If TUI fly accepts, payment typically comes within a few weeks. If it refuses or goes quiet, the formal letter and any court case add a few months. Once the money reaches us, your share goes to you by bank transfer.

Lost or damaged luggage with TUI fly

Bags are covered by the Montreal Convention, not EU261. Fill in a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) before leaving the arrivals hall, then write to the airline within 7 days for damage or within 21 days of getting the bag back for a delay.

TUI Fly compensation: frequently asked questions

How much compensation does TUI fly pay for a delay?
€250 for flights up to 1,500 km, €400 for routes such as Tenerife–Brussels or Casablanca–Paris, and €600 for flights over 3,500 km such as Cancún–Brussels. You need to arrive at least 3 hours late for a reason that was not extraordinary.
My flight was part of a TUI package holiday. Can I still claim?
Yes. EU261 compensation is owed by the airline that operated the flight, even if you bought it together with the hotel. The package voucher with the flight number is enough to start.
Is TUI Airways covered by EU261?
Only on flights departing from an EU airport, because TUI Airways is a UK airline. Flights from the UK fall under UK261, which pays £220, £350 or £520 depending on distance.
Does TUI fly still fly from Brussels to Punta Cana and Cancún?
No. TUI fly Belgium ended its long-haul flights from Brussels between late October and early November 2025. If one of those flights was badly delayed or cancelled before then, you can still claim up to €600 per passenger.
TUI fly moved my flight by several hours. Am I owed anything?
Possibly. If the change was significant and you were told less than 14 days before departure, the EU Court of Justice treats it like a cancellation. Send us the retiming email and we will check.
Do I get compensation if TUI fly pilots go on strike?
Usually yes. A strike by the airline's own staff is not an extraordinary circumstance according to the EU Court of Justice. A strike by air traffic controllers or airport staff is.
We were a family of four. How much can we claim?
Each passenger with their own seat is owed the full amount, children included. On a Punta Cana–Brussels flight more than 3 hours late, four people can claim 4 × €600, so €2,400.
TUI fly has already rejected my claim. Can you still help?
Yes. Many rejections cite technical faults or knock-on delays that do not rule out compensation. We review the reply and, if it does not hold, send a formal letter and go to court with our own lawyers.
What does DelayFlight24 charge for a TUI fly claim?
Nothing upfront. If we recover the money we keep 25% + VAT: from €250 you receive €173.75, from €400 you receive €278. Legal costs are ours even if the case is lost.
