Titan Airways compensation: which charter flights qualify
Titan Airways is a British airline based at London Stansted and flying since 1988. Most of its work is for other businesses: holiday companies, airlines short of aircraft, sports teams and government departments. You may only have found out you flew with Titan when you saw the boarding pass on a package holiday or a chartered trip.
Since Brexit, Titan Airways counts as a non-EU carrier under Regulation (EC) 261/2004. The EU rules cover its flights only when they depart from an airport in the EU, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland. Flights leaving the UK fall under the UK's own version of the rules instead, with amounts in pounds.

How much Titan Airways pays per passenger
The figure is fixed by distance, not by what the holiday cost.
| Flight distance | Example trips | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | Charters from France, Belgium or the Netherlands to the UK | €250 |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | Return legs from the Canaries to the UK | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km | Long-haul charters on Titan's A321LR aircraft | €600 |
Each traveller in your party claims separately, children with their own seat included. Two adults and two kids on a €400 flight are owed €1,600 between them.
Delayed Titan Airways flight: building your evidence
On charter flights, updates usually come from the tour operator rather than the airline, so hold on to everything:
- Your boarding pass, showing the ZT code or the flight number of the company that hired Titan.
- Messages from the holiday company about the delay or new timings.
- The time the doors opened on arrival, plus a photo of the arrivals board.
- Receipts for food, taxis or a hotel you paid for yourself.
- No signed waivers in exchange for discount codes or vouchers.
Food, drink and hotel while you wait
| Flight distance | Care due after |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | 2 hours |
| 1,500 to 3,500 km | 3 hours |
| Over 3,500 km | 4 hours |
| Delay of 5 hours or more | You can drop the flight and get your money back |
Missed onward flight
If everything was on one booking, what counts is how late you reached the last stop, and the payout follows the full distance. More on Titan Airways delay compensation.
Titan Airways flight cancelled
The tour operator will usually rebook you, but that does not wipe out your rights against the airline.
Always available when a flight is cancelled, whatever the notice.
On top, if you heard less than 14 days before you were due to fly.
| Notice given | Compensation |
|---|---|
| 14 days or more | Not due |
| 7 to 13 days | Due, unless the new flight left no more than 2 hours early and landed under 4 hours late |
| Under 7 days | Due, unless the new flight left no more than 1 hour early and landed under 2 hours late |
Big timetable change. A charter moved by several hours shortly before departure can be treated as a cancellation. See Titan Airways cancellation compensation.

Left behind at a European airport because the flight was full? Compensation is due at once, along with a seat on another flight. Read our page on Titan Airways overbooking.
Strikes and Titan Airways flights
A walkout by Titan's own pilots or cabin crew normally does not get the airline off the hook: the EU Court of Justice treats it as part of running an airline (case C-28/20). Air traffic control strikes are a different matter and usually rule out a payout.
Titan Airways turned your claim down? Typical reasons
Faults found during routine maintenance are the airline's own risk.
EU Court of Justice, case C-549/07Payable if Titan crew were striking, not if controllers were.
EU Court of Justice, case C-28/20The carrier that operated the flight owes the money.
True under the EU rules, though UK rules may still help.
Flights run for other airlines and holiday firms
Much of Titan's flying is ACMI, meaning it supplies the aircraft and crew while the flight may carry another airline's number. The carrier that actually operates the flight is responsible. For departures from Britain the UK rules apply, and the Civil Aviation Authority oversees them.
Claiming from Titan Airways: on your own or with us
You work out who to write to, then go to the national enforcement body of the country you departed from, or to court, at your own cost.
Sign online and we handle it, including court action with our own lawyers. You pay only if you win: 25% + VAT, so €173.75 of €250 and €278 of €400 come to you. Legal costs are ours even if we lose.

How long payment takes
If Titan accepts, money usually arrives within a few weeks; if a formal demand or court case is needed, allow a few months. We email you at each stage.
Lost or damaged luggage on Titan
Bags are covered by the Montreal Convention: fill in a PIR before leaving the airport, then write within 7 days for damage or 21 days after delivery for a delay.
