Uzbekistan Airways compensation: which flights to Tashkent qualify
Uzbekistan Airways is the state-owned flag carrier of Uzbekistan, headquartered in Tashkent and running its network from Tashkent International Airport. Travellers use it from London, Frankfurt, Riga and other European cities to reach Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva on the Silk Road. Because it is not a European airline, Regulation (EC) 261/2004 protects you only on departures from Europe (EU, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland). Frankfurt–Tashkent is covered; Tashkent–Frankfurt is not. Flights leaving the UK fall under the equivalent British rules, UK261.
Late arrival
You reach Tashkent, or the last city on your ticket, three hours or more behind schedule.
3 hours or longerCancelled departure
Your flight out of Europe is scrapped and you hear about it less than two weeks ahead.
Under 14 days' noticeBumped off
The aircraft is oversold and you are refused boarding despite valid papers and a timely arrival at the gate.
Payable on the spotNo claim
Departures from Uzbekistan, plus genuine extraordinary events the airline can prove.

How much Uzbekistan Airways pays: €600 per passenger
Every route from Western Europe to Tashkent is longer than 3,500 km, so the figure is the same whatever your fare cost.
| Departure from Europe | Approx. distance | Compensation |
|---|---|---|
| Frankfurt–Tashkent | 4,700 km | €600 |
| Riga–Tashkent | 3,650 km | €600 |
| Milan Malpensa–Tashkent | 4,800 km | €600 |
| Paris Charles de Gaulle–Tashkent | 5,100 km | €600 |
A couple travelling with two children who had their own seats could claim €2,400 for one disrupted flight. Under UK261, departures from London carry a sterling amount instead; we tell you which applies.
Uzbekistan Airways flight delayed: what to do
The three-hour mark is measured when the doors open at your final airport. While you wait:
- Photograph your boarding pass before you hand it over at the gate.
- Ask the ground staff why the flight is late and write down what they say.
- Keep every text and email about the new departure time.
- Note the real landing time in Tashkent or Urgench.
- Turn down paperwork that trades your cash claim for vouchers.
Meals and hotel while you wait
| Flight length | Care from |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | 2 hours |
| 1,500-3,500 km | 3 hours |
| Over 3,500 km, such as Frankfurt–Tashkent | 4 hours |
| Delay of 5 hours or more | You may abandon the trip and get your fare back |
Missed onward flight to Samarkand or Bukhara
If one booking took you from Europe through Tashkent to another Uzbek or Asian city, what matters is the delay at the last stop. A separately bought domestic leg starts outside Europe and is not covered. More on the delayed Uzbekistan Airways flight page.
Uzbekistan Airways flight cancelled
Several European routes are seasonal and get trimmed or merged at short notice. If your departure from Europe disappears, you hold two separate rights.
Yours to choose, however much notice you got.
When the news reached you fewer than 14 days before departure.
| Notice given | Compensation |
|---|---|
| 14 days or more | No, only refund or rerouting |
| 7 to 13 days | Yes, unless the alternative leaves no more than 2 hours early and lands within 4 hours |
| Under 7 days | Yes, unless the alternative leaves no more than 1 hour early and lands within 2 hours |
Retimed flight. A big shift in departure time announced shortly before travel can count as a cancellation. Read about the cancelled Uzbekistan Airways flight.
Uzbekistan Airways overbooking
Refused boarding at Frankfurt because too many seats were sold? You get €600 straight away, plus a new flight or a refund. Being turned away over a missing visa or entry document does not count. See Uzbekistan Airways overbooking.
Uzbekistan Airways strikes
When the airline's own pilots or cabin crew walk out, the EU Court of Justice treats it as a normal business risk, so compensation remains due on departures from Europe (case C-28/20). An air traffic control strike is different and lets the carrier off, although meals and rebooking are still owed.
Uzbekistan Airways rejected your claim?
Repairs and checks are part of running an airline.
EU Court of Justice, case C-549/07A knock-on delay alone is not enough unless the airline names the extraordinary event behind it.
Only if the weather really stopped that flight; we check airport records.
Flights from Uzbekistan to Europe: what is not covered
A Tashkent–London or Tashkent–Paris flight operated by Uzbekistan Airways sits outside both EU261 and UK261, because it starts outside Europe with a non-European carrier. Only Uzbek law or the Montreal Convention, for proven losses, may help.
How to claim from Uzbekistan Airways
Write through the contact channels on uzairways.com, then chase replies and escalate to the national enforcement body of the departure country (the CAA for UK flights) or a court.
A two-minute form and an online signature. Nothing up front; our fee is 25% + VAT only if we win, so €600 leaves you €417.
Already turned down?
Send us the airline's reply: if the reasoning is weak, we restart the case with a formal letter before action.
What to have ready
- E-ticketShowing the booking reference.
- PassportA copy for each traveller.
- Proof of disruptionAirline notices and receipts.
Time limit
The Regulation sets no deadline of its own; national law decides (case C-139/11).
How long payment takes
If the airline accepts, the money usually arrives within a few weeks. If our lawyers have to send a demand or go to court, allow several months; legal costs stay with us even if the case is lost.
Lost luggage on Uzbekistan Airways
Bags fall under the Montreal Convention: fill in a PIR before leaving the arrivals hall, then write to the airline within 7 days for damage or within 21 days of delivery for a delay.
