  • Delay: if you arrive 3 hours or more late, Hop! owes €250 to €600 per person, depending on the distance.
  • Cancellation: you are owed compensation if you were told less than 14 days before departure, on top of a ticket refund or an alternative flight.
  • Not owed for extraordinary circumstances (severe weather, air traffic control strikes). Technical faults and strikes by the airline's own staff usually are not extraordinary.
  • With DelayFlight24 you pay nothing upfront: if Hop! pays, you keep €173.75 out of €250 or €278 out of €400.

HOP! compensation: flights now sold as Air France and operated by Air France Hop

HOP! was the regional brand of the Air France-KLM group, created in 2013 by bringing together Brit Air, Régional and Airlinair. The HOP! brand no longer exists: since 1 September 2019 its flights have been sold under the Air France name and flight code, and the airline is now called Air France Hop. It is still flying, with Embraer regional jets, mainly from its bases at Lyon-Saint-Exupéry and Paris-Charles de Gaulle. If your ticket says "operated by Air France Hop", this page is for you.

Air France Hop is French and therefore an EU carrier: Regulation (EC) 261/2004 applies to its departures from the EU and to flights arriving in Europe from outside, including the UK.

Regional flight delayed

You reach your final destination at least 3 hours late, even after changing in Paris or Lyon.

3 hours on arrival

Flight scrapped

The service was cancelled with less than 14 days' notice.

Under 14 days

No seat left

The Embraer was full and you were left behind despite having a valid booking.

How much Air France Hop pays

Your fare makes no difference: what matters is the distance between departure and final destination.

Distance Air France Hop flights Amount
Up to 1,500 km Most of the network: French domestic flights such as Lyon–Paris and links to nearby European cities €250
1,500 to 3,500 km Rare on regional aircraft, possible with an onward flight on the same ticket €400
Over 3,500 km Only with an Air France long-haul connection on the same ticket €600

Every passenger is entitled, including children with their own seat: three of you on a €250 flight means €750.

Air France Hop flight delayed: what to do

A one-hour regional hop can build up hours of delay. What counts is when the doors open at the last airport on your ticket.

  1. Save your boarding pass from the Air France app: it shows the AF number and the operating airline.
  2. Photograph the departures board with the reason shown.
  3. Keep Air France notifications about the delay and any new connection.
  4. Note your arrival time at your final destination, not just in Paris or Lyon.
  5. Turn down vouchers if you would rather have money: compensation is due in cash or by bank transfer.

Care while you wait

Distance Meals and drinks after
Up to 1,500 km 2 hours
1,500 to 3,500 km 3 hours
Over 3,500 km 4 hours
Over 5 hours You may give up the trip and get your fare back

Missed connection at Paris-Charles de Gaulle

Hop feeds a lot of passengers onto Air France long-haul services. If a late regional flight made you miss your connection and everything was on one booking, your final arrival is what counts: on a Lyon–Paris–New York trip arriving 3 hours or more late, you are owed €600. Air France Hop flight cancelled

Regional flights are often cancelled when an aircraft is grounded.

Refund or new flight

You choose between your fare back and alternative transport.

€250 to €600 compensation

Owed on top if you had less than 14 days' notice.

Notice Compensation
14 days or more No, refund or rebooking only
7 to 13 days Yes, unless the replacement left no more than 2 hours earlier and arrived less than 4 hours late
Under 7 days Yes, unless the replacement left no more than 1 hour earlier and arrived less than 2 hours late

Smaller network. Air France-KLM announced that Hop would shrink and that its Paris-Orly routes would pass to Transavia France: if your route was dropped or retimed significantly a few days before departure, it may count as a cancellation. Read about a cancelled Air France Hop flight.

Air France Hop overbooking

The Embraer regional jets have around a hundred seats, so it does not take much for someone to be left behind. If it happened through no fault of yours, compensation is due straight away, along with another flight. Full guide to Air France Hop overbooking.

Hop strike or a strike in France

If Air France Hop pilots or cabin crew strike, compensation is still owed (case C-28/20). French air traffic control strikes, which often force airlines to cut short-haul flights in particular, are outside events: no compensation, but care and a refund still apply.

Hop! compensation: frequently asked questions

Does HOP! still exist?
The brand does not: since 1 September 2019 its flights have been sold as Air France, with AF flight numbers. The airline still flies under the name Air France Hop, as the regional carrier of the Air France-KLM group.
How much does Air France Hop pay for a delayed flight?
On most of its regional network, with flights up to 1,500 km, €250 per passenger if you arrive at least 3 hours late. If the Hop flight was the first leg of a long-haul journey on the same ticket, the amount is based on the total distance and can reach €600.
My flight was sold as Air France but operated by Hop. Who do I claim from?
Compensation is owed by the operating airline, Air France Hop, but claims go through Air France customer service. On our form, the AF number on your ticket is all we need.
A late Hop flight made me miss my connection at Paris-Charles de Gaulle. What am I owed?
If both flights were on one booking and you reached your final destination 3 hours or more late, compensation is based on the distance from your first departure to your final arrival: on Lyon–Paris–New York, that is €600.
Does a French air traffic control strike entitle me to compensation?
No, it is an extraordinary circumstance. You still have the right to care at the airport and the choice between a refund and another flight. If Air France Hop's own staff strike, compensation is normally due.
Can I still claim for a flight under the old HOP! brand?
Often yes: the Regulation sets no deadline, so the limit of the country where you claim applies. Enter your flight date and we will tell you whether you are still in time.
Air France offered me a voucher instead of compensation. Should I accept?
You do not have to. Compensation must be paid in money unless you agree in writing to a voucher. Check what you are owed before signing anything.
What does DelayFlight24 charge for an Air France Hop claim?
Nothing upfront. If we recover your money we keep 25% + VAT: from €250 you get €173.75, from €400 you get €278 and from €600 you get €417. Legal costs are ours even if the case is lost.
